Controlling Your Emotions
WNBA player Tamera Young tells us how she learned to control her emotions to avoid negative impacts.
Young tells us about the lesson she learned throughout her development about management her emotions on the basketball court. Her instinct was to fight back or retaliate, but her coach pulled her aside and taught her to remain calm to avoid any negative impacts of her behavior, such as technical fouls or needing to be removed from the game. This message really sank in for her when her coach said, “People are watching you, and you want to play at the next level. No one wants a hot head.” Young learned how to control her emotions, which she admits is not an easy task when you’re passionate about your sport.
